When we hear the word feria, we often picture elegant ladies in dazzling flamenco dresses, flowers tucked into perfectly coiffed hair, and men in crisp suits sipping sherry like they’re in a perfume advert.

Well… let me tell you, in an agricultural village like ours, let’s just say things are a tad more… rustic.

Yes, there are still a few posh frocks to be seen, but they have to share the spotlight with:

Horses. Big ones, small ones, shiny ones, and the occasional slightly scruffy one that clearly didn’t get the heads up on grooming. They’re the real stars here.

Have you heard about “The Ribbon Race”

Imagine musical chairs but with galloping horses, flying ribbons, and riders who somehow manage to hang off their saddles like stunt doubles in a spaghetti western and not a hard hat in sight

Also Drink Riding I think it’s compulsory to have a beer whilst in the saddle

Blessing of the Horses. Because nothing says “thank you” to your faithful steed like a bit of holy water and a pat on the nose.

Threshing Demonstrations. A throwback to when harvests were powered by muscle and mule rather than tractors and apps. There’s dust, sweat, and an impressive amount of shouting.

Slingshot Contests. Ever wanted to see grown adults channel their inner 8-year-old? This is your moment. Just make sure you are stood well back.

Clay Pigeon Shooting. For those who prefer their aim tested at something a little less likely to shoot back. A big event with the 1st prize being 400€

Ear protection is definately recommended.

By the end of the day, The pubs are full, drinks are flowing kids are running in every direction, and you’ll have made at least one new friend —whether, in the morning, you remember meeting them or not.

So yes, feria can be all about flowers, frills, and fancy dancing.But here in the countryside, it’s also about dust in your hair, the occasional rogue slingshot pellet, and that slightly dazed feeling you get after riding a mechanical bull you swore you wouldn’t go near.

It’s messy, it’s noisy, it’s brilliant. And honestly? I wouldn’t have it any other way.
